Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings, coming off a bye week, looked to secure their second straight win in Week 9 as they hosted Amon-Ra St. Brown and the Detroit Lions on Sunday. For the first time since Week 2, Jefferson had his top quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, back under center, while Carson Wentz saw his 2025 NFL season end after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Coming into the Vikings-Lions matchup, Jefferson had recorded 536 catches for 8,034 yards and 41 touchdowns during his six-year NFL career. But with one minute, 38 seconds remaining in the second quarter, McCarthy hit Jefferson for a loss of a yard, marking the former LSU Tigers wide receiver's fourth catch of the game and 540th of his career.

In doing so, Jefferson passes his current teammate, Adam Thielen, for the third-most receptions in Vikings history. Thielen, in 11 seasons with the Vikings, recorded 539 catches for 6,729 yards and 55 touchdowns.

Jefferson still has a long way to go if he hopes to break the franchise record . Randy Moss ranks second in Vikings history with 587 receptions for 9,316 yards and 92 touchdowns, while Cris Carter sits atop the list with 1,004 catches for 12,383 yards and 110 touchdowns, all franchise records.

"Carter. Moss. Jefferson," the Vikings wrote on X.

This isn’t the first time Jefferson has made history in 2025. In Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers, he became just the third player in NFL history to surpass 8,000 receiving yards within his first six seasons, joining Moss and Torry Holt.

Up next for Jefferson and the Vikings is a Week 10 matchup with Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
