The Minnesota Vikings suffered their first loss of the 2026 NFL season on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Now 6-1, the Vikings remain atop the NFC North and have had a highly successful start to the year. After winning the starting job in the offseason, quarterback Kyler Murray has had an inconsistent season, along with the offense as a whole.

The Vikings’ offensive line has been a major weakness through the first half of the season, contributing to a struggling offensive attack. Minnesota is averaging just 279.4 total yards per game, 29th in the NFL, while its 20 points per game rank 27th.

Murray was brought in to fix the Vikings’ issues at quarterback, but his season has been rocky. Murray suffered a concussion early during a Week 1 matchup with the Green Bay Packers, causing him to miss a game before returning in Week 3. In six games this season, Murray is completing 64.9% of his passes for 1,022 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.

On the offensive line, Christian Darrisaw and Brian O’Neill have both been managing injuries, while the interior of the line has also been inconsistent through the early part of the season. With a tough schedule ahead, including games against the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers, the Vikings’ offensive line depth will continue to be tested.

Tuesday, Minnesota made a move surrounding one of its reserve linemen. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Vikings are releasing guard Trevor Keegan, who had appeared in seven games this season.

Keegan was used primarily on special teams this season after being claimed off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys in August.

While the move will likely not affect their game-day plans for the offensive line, it does remove another depth option from a unit that is hoping to improve as the season continues.
