Vikings running back is close to making franchise history
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

This year will be very memorable for the Minnesota Vikings for a lot of reasons. For many, this will be the year of "what if," but for others, there are some cool and interesting moments that have created plenty of intrigue to follow.

One of these strange stories has been surrounding Alexander Mattison, and the running back could make history on Sunday if prior results have held up.

There are about to be a lot of fans trying to see if Mattison scores his first rushing touchdown of the season against the Lions. If not, franchise history will be made.

Mattison has been a very mixed bag this season in the lead role. There have been moments that flashed the upside that many saw back when Dalvin Cook was still the lead guy, but there have also been several dud games that cause many to believe a change will be coming at RB1 next year.

Minnesota's top back this year currently has 676 rushing yards this year (career high), 187 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns (another career high).

The one strange stat? Mattison doesn't having a rushing touchdown yet this season, and that could be good enough for Vikings history.

In a strange year for the Vikings, this stat seems about as spot-on as it could be.

While it may not be as strange as a player with Mattison's usage having no touchdowns (he still has three), it still reveals plenty about this Vikings, their offense, and what they did in the red zone.

The obvious hope is that Mattison is able to finally put a one (or more) in the rushing touchdown category this Sunday, but that not happening would be pretty interesting when you consider this year as a whole in Minnesota.
