With the NFL trade deadline set for Nov. 10, the Los Angeles Chargers could shake up the league by trading quarterback Justin Herbert. Is that actually a possibility though?
This season has been incredibly rough for Herbert, who is only completing 61.8% of his passes for 1,398 yards with five touchdowns and 10 interceptions. That being said, he’s still considered an extremely valuable asset.
At 6-1, the Minnesota Vikings have proven they have a Super Bowl-caliber defense. Their passing game, however, has struggled mightily with Kyler Murray leading the charge.
Although a deal isn’t likely, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer said the Vikings should call the Chargers to see if Herbert is available.
“I wouldn’t mind the Vikings taking a swing on this,” Breer said. “I think the idea of trading for a player like this is similar to trading for Jeffrey Simmons, Justin Simmons wasn’t necessary available.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently spoke to a source on the Chargers about Herbert being involved in trade rumors. He was told that Herbert isn’t going anywhere this season.
“The person cut me off mid-sentence, stopped me in my tracks and said, ‘Let me be very clear about this: we have never even discussed that idea. Should we trade Justin Herbert has never been uttered in our organization, nor will it be.’ This is what the person said. … I didn’t even hear a ‘we will listen.’ They won’t discuss it, they won’t think about it,” Schefter said.
Herbert is currently under contract through the 2029 NFL season.
