Vikings WR Justin Jefferson sends message to those accusing him of slacking off

Following his 184-yard, two-touchdown performance in Week 1, Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson all but disappeared in Weeks 2 and 3.

So, when the 23-year-old wideout regained his form against the New Orleans Saints in London last Sunday, he made sure to let everyone know that he didn’t go anywhere with a post on Instagram of himself looking down at Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore much like Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson did when he stepped over Los Angeles Lakers point guard Tyronn Lue in 2001.

“Of course, we was chirping a little bit during the game, but that post was just for everybody thinking that I slacked off during the matchups I’ve been having the last few weeks,” Jefferson told reporters on Thursday. “So, that was just because he was chirping and that was like a ‘I’m coming back,’ or ‘I’m back,’ or ‘I’m still here.’ That type of thing.”

Jefferson made sure to clear up that his six-reception, 48-yard performance against the Philadelphia Eagles and three-reception, 14-yard outing against the Detroit Lions weren’t for a lack of effort on his part.

The LSU alum drew several double and triple coverages in both games, opening up more one-on-one coverages for both Adam Thielen and K.J. Osborn, who combined for 17 receptions, 211 yards, and two touchdowns over that two-game span.

“It’s definitely difficult at times, especially during the game,” Jefferson said of being double-covered. “Of course, you want to (have) a big role in the game and of course you want to make some plays and of course score touchdowns and get these yards. But at the end of the day, I’ve got to realize that I’m a key factor on this team, and that I’m going to be keyed on sometimes. That just means that those 1-on-1s that K.J. and Adam have, we’re very confident in those matchups.”
