Edge defender Von Miller remains without a team as training camp draws closer, but the 37-year-old has made it clear he wants to play in 2026. Miller lobbied for reunions with a pair of his former teams, the Broncos and Bills, during the spring. Neither club has pursued Miller, who has turned his attention to the Cowboys.
A native of nearby DeSoto, Texas, and a former Texas A&M star, Miller expressed interest in signing with Dallas on Monday, telling RJ Ochoa of Blogging The Boys, “This would be the first time my mom and dad don’t have to fly to every single game.”
Miller then took to Instagram on Wednesday and posted an edited image of himself wearing a Cowboys uniform, leading to further speculation about a potential deal. However, it appears Miller will have to look elsewhere. As things stand, there is nothing brewing between the eight-time Pro Bowler and the Cowboys, per reports from Jane Slater of NFL Network and Joey Hayden of the Dallas Morning News.
Dallas entered the offseason in dire need of help along the edge, especially with 2025 sack leader Jadeveon Clowney and fellow veteran Dante Fowler Jr. on the way to free agency. Clowney is still stuck in free agency with Miller, while Fowler signed with the Seahawks.
To replace Clowney and Fowler, the Cowboys acquired Rashan Gary from the Packers and spent the 23rd pick in the draft on former UCF pass rusher Malachi Lawrence. Those two will join Donovan Ezeiruaku as the Cowboys’ top pass rushers. They also have James Houston, Sam Williams, Marist Liufau, Charles Snowden, Tyrus Wheat and Isaiah Land under contract.
Miller is coming off a one-year run with the NFC East rival Commanders, with whom he played a full 17-game season and recorded nine sacks despite playing just 37% of defensive snaps. With 138.5 in his career, Miller ranks ninth on the league’s official all-time list. He only needs 3.5 to move into sole possession of sixth place.
In the unlikely event Miller and the Cowboys partner up in 2026, he and rookie defensive coordinator Christian Parker would reunite. The two crossed paths in Denver in 2021, Miller’s last year with the Broncos and Parker’s first as their defensive backs coach.
