Washington Commanders Star Accuses NFL Of 'Unfair' Officiating

It was a rough night at Lambeau Field for the Washington Commanders as the Green Bay Packers smothered them defensively while controlling them offensively in a 27-18 win that felt a little more lopsided than the final score would suggest.

But one member of the Commanders believes that the Packers might have gotten some extra help in the form of favorable officiating.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore took issues with some of the penalty flags thrown his way while he was trying to cover different pass catchers. He accused the officials of blatantly missing a play where a receiver pushed off on him and missed other calls.

“No, they were not [penalties]. And they missed one on the deep ball when he pushed off,” Lattimore said, via longtime Commanders reporter Ben Standig. “Go look at the film. There’s no way he read that much separation if I’m right there. They missed calls, they called calls that weren’t supposed to be calls. I don’t really think it was fair. It is what it is. Live to fight another day," Lattimore said.

Killer Penalties

Washington were penalized five times for 30 yards in their Thursday Night Football loss to the Packers. Interestingly, Green Bay was penalized twice as much for more than double the yards. But Green Bay were simply so much more efficient on offense that their penalties didn't feel nearly as impactful.

As for Lattimore, ProFootballTalk reported that the two he had on Thursday now give him 10 in just seven games since being traded to the team from the New Orleans Saints during the 2024 season.

Chances are, if Lattimore has more penalties than games played, he's as much of the problem if not more than the referees.

The Commanders now need to step back and regroup. They finish the month of September with games against the Las Vegas Raiders (home) and Atlanta Falcons (road).

If they can win both or even one of those games, they'll be in good shape head into a much, much tougher part of the schedule in October where they'll have to face the Chargers, Bears, Cowboys and Chiefs over four straight weeks.

Can the Commanders rebound against the Raiders next week?
