The days of Morgan Moses being in a Washington Football Team uniform may be numbered. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Washington is likely to move on from their starting right tackle and has granted his agent permission to seek a trade.
If a trade is not made, he is likely to be released. Moses is due $7.5 million in the 2021 season. If Washington moves on via trade or release, they’ll save $5.6 million against the salary cap.
Moses has two years remaining on a five-year, $38.5 million deal.
The decision to move on from Moses comes as a huge surprise to many. A third round pick of Washington in 2014, Moses has started every game since 2015. He has invested in his body and been able to play through injuries.
The WFT acquired Ereck Flowers (trade) and Charles Leno (FA) this offseason, along with Samuel Cosmi (draft). That trickled down to Moses, who may be released if he can’t be traded. He’s started 16 games since 2015. https://t.co/cEuuWklTjC

Last season, Morgan Moses filled in and started two games at left tackle due to injuries. He is also one of the vocal leaders in the locker room, assuming the role after the departure of Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams.

However, Washington seems prepared to move on with other options for whatever reason. They have a surplus at offensive tackle, signing former Chicago Bears left tackle Charles Leno Jr. in free agency and drafting Samuel Cosmi out of Texas in the second round of this year’s draft.
Washington also added Ereck Flowers in a trade with the Miami Dolphins this offseason. Flowers has most recently played left guard in the last two seasons, however, he was an offensive tackle throughout college and his first four seasons in the NFL.
Washington has done a great deal of roster turnover in the last two years under head coach Ron Rivera and his regime. While most of the changes have worked out well, moving on from locker room leaders such as Ryan Kerrigan, Williams and now Moses will surely be questioned.
