Washington's Jon Bostic suggests offense is already better with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick

The Washington Football Team signed journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick early into the new NFL year to replace the retired Alex Smith and begin training camp sessions atop the depth chart ahead of Taylor Heinicke, Kyle Allen and Steven Montez after the club did not use a top-tier draft pick on a signal-caller.

Washington coach Ron Rivera claimed earlier this month that Fitzpatrick will have to compete to earn the starting gig this summer, but linebacker Jon Bostic seems keen on Washington relying on some FitzMagic through the fall months.

"You can see just how much of a step that offense has taken already," Bostic said of Fitzpatrick's influence during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, per Kevin Patra of the league's website. "I think he's really, really going to help those guys out. I can start to see how he's improved how they're running certain routes, and he's like, 'I'm going to throw you open here,' some of these 7-routes, instead of running them maybe like a clear-cut 7 (route) maybe bend it a little more, it's going to make it harder for the linebacker to try and get under (the route).

"I'm very pleased with where we are on the offensive side of the ball and happy as we're growing as a football team."

Regardless of Rivera's previous comments, Fitzpatrick is Washington's QB1 until further notice or unless the club makes a shocking splash for a star such as disgruntled Green Bay Packers starter Aaron Rodgers.
