This has been a long time coming, as the Colorado product faced a long path to NFL action. Widely projected as a first-round pick, Shedeur Sanders fell all the way to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft before landing with the Cleveland Browns. The rookie began the season as the fourth quarterback on the depth chart but quickly climbed up the ranks.
The Browns traded veteran Kenny Pickett to the Las Vegas Raiders just before the season, putting Sanders behind only Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel on the depth chart. After sending an ineffective Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals, Sanders became Gabriel’s primary backup.
Only time will tell if Shedeur Sanders can be Cleveland’s long-awaited answer under center, but he won’t need to be Tom Brady to overtake Dillon Gabriel on the depth chart. The third-round pick has struggled during his time on the field. Prior to Sunday’s game against the Ravens, Gabriel completed just 58.6% of his passes for 869 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions while going 1-4. He was having a decent day prior to his injury, completing seven of his 10 attempts for 68 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions while taking one sack for seven yards.
As of this posting, the Cleveland Browns lead their division rivals, 16-10. Superstar edge rusher Myles Garrett has recorded four sacks, bringing his season total up to 12.
