Watch: Colts trick play goes comically, horribly wrong

The Indianapolis Colts were facing what was pretty much a must-win game in Denver on Sunday, and they did not do themselves any favors.

After running back Jonathan Taylor gave away a potential touchdown by dropping the ball short of the goal line early in the third quarter, the Colts tried to dial up a trick play that could not have gone worse.

It involved Adonai Mitchell getting a backwards pass and then trying to throw it back across the field on a double-pass play.

Instead of finding a teammate, it found Broncos linebacker Nik Bonitto, who returned it for a Broncos touchdown to extend their lead.

That play, as well as the Taylor play, both happening in the second half of a must-win game is some serious self-inflicted madness.

At least this play is somewhat defensible. You are trying to get back in the game. You need a spark. You are going for a big play and a spark.

It just did not work. At all. That happens.

There is no excuse for the Taylor play.
