Watch: New York Giants QB Daniel Jones involved in scuffle with Detroit Lions
Lucas Boland-USA TODAY Sports

In what ended up being one of many scuffles that took place during a joint practice between the New York Giants and the Detroit Lions Monday, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones kicked off a fight between the two teams.

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones played a significant role in the scuffle

Despite being quickly pulled away by Giants personnel after getting involved in the fight, Jones did not hesitate to get his hands dirty.

What appeared to be a Giants offensive lineman was struggling to get up after a play as he was entangled with a Detroit Lions defender. Jones stepped into action and shoved the Lions player, kicking off a massive scuffle between the two teams.

There were multiple fights between the New York Giants and the Detroit Lions

The fight that Jones was heavily involved in was not the only fight that took place between the Lions and the Giants during their joint practice.

At least two other fights broke out between the two NFC teams looking to solidify their place as a threat to make a deep run in the playoffs in 2024.

One of the other fights involved star Lions wide receiver Amon Ra St. Brown and Giants defensive back Andru Phillips, meaning the fight took place with two completely different groups of people on the field.

This scuffle shows that tensions were running high throughout the whole joint practice and not just between the Giants’ offensive squad and the Lions’ defensive squad.

Another fight between the two teams got so out of hand that New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen had to get in the mix in an effort to put an end to things.

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones has a lot to prove

Coming into the 2024 season after a season-ending injury as a QB making $40 million a year, Jones himself said he has a lot to prove in an article from Sports Illustrated.

“I always feel like I have a lot to prove. I’m motivated. I’m doing everything I can to be ready to go,” he said.

A fiery Jones with a lot to prove could have contributed to his willingness to defend his teammates and get involved in a large training camp scuffle.

In the same article, NFL insider Ari Meirov said that Jones has been fueled by negativity and is more motivated than ever to prove people wrong. His motivation and intensity may have driven him to get a little too fired up in the practice involving the Lions.

“Privately, all offseason long, he’s been telling people he is as motivated as ever,” Meirov said.

“The negativity, the talk about drafting a quarterback with the sixth overall pick–that lit a fire in a player like him, and he wants to prove everybody wrong a year after getting that big contract.”

Even if Jones continues to struggle to put together a full good season as the Giants QB, he has won some fans over with his willingness to fight for his teammates.
