Last season, Wilson capped off a challenging stint with Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton, who openly criticized the former Super Bowl champion and made it clear that Wilson was not part of his plans. 

Now in Pittsburgh, Wilson has found his rhythm under head coach Mike Tomlin, who demonstrated his trust in Wilson’s abilities by naming him the starter earlier this season, even with the team at a 4-2 record under Justin Fields.

Wilson rewarded that trust against the Bengals, completing 29 of 38 passes for 414 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. His performance was bolstered by contributions from George Pickens, who logged 74 yards and a touchdown, and Pat Freiermuth, who added 68 yards and a score. 

Calvin Austin II and Najee Harris also played pivotal roles in the Steelers’ highest-scoring game since 2018.

This victory secured Pittsburgh’s 520-yard offensive explosion and extended their impressive streak of competitive play. Wilson’s return to form under Tomlin underscores the importance of leadership and trust in shaping a team’s identity.
