While the Eagles are looking forward to getting back on the field for Week 1 of the 2025 season, in hopes of celebrating a repeat performance of last season's Super Bowl champinoship run, the Cowboys are similarly eager to get back to playing. For Dallas, it's not so much the celebrating that will be the motivation, though--it's just to put what has been a miserable week for the franchise behind it.
But for both the Cowboys and the Eagles, the nationally televised debut on Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia could have an unwelcomed guest: Water. And a lot of it.
As Derek Eagleton, the Dallas Cowboys VP of Media and Content points out, while the afternoon in Eastern Pennsylvania has been lovely, that's about to change. And when the Eagles-Cowboys kickoff comes around, there's currently a 100% chance it wil be raining.
The game will kick at 8:20 ET, and according to Eagleton's weather report, Philly will begin experiencing a 100% chance of rain at 7 p.m. He wrote on Twitter/X: "It’s beautiful in Philly right now but heavy rain expected throughout the game tonight. Running the ball and stopping the run will be even more necessary than usual."

At the Weather Channel, the inevitability of rain is the same, listed as moderate in its volume, though it appears that rain could come later in the evening, beginning right around kickoff rather than well before it.
The site has "Thunderstorms possible after 8 p.m." posted for Philadelphia, with the possibility of storms stretching well past 11 p.m. ET. That could result in a long night--games must be suspended and the stands cleared if there is lightning in the area. It's far from certain, but this one could be in for a long delay.
Of course, a rainy night might bring a smile to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who justified trading away star pass-rusher Micah Parsons by emphasizing the need to stop the run. The Cowboys brought back interior lineman Kenny Clark to help accomplish that.
If the Eagles game is played in the slop and the Cowboys slow the Eagles' runnning game, then, for one night, at least, Jones will have been vindicated.
