Week 14 NFC East predictions: Cowboys take top spot

After a humiliating defeat, Philadelphia hopes to rebound against a dominating Dallas team while the Giants look for their third straight win against the Packers.

Philadelphia Eagles (10-2) at Dallas Cowboys (9-3)

San Francisco defeated Philadelphia 42-19 in a rematch of last year's NFC Championship game, handing them the worst loss of the Nick Sirianni era. Now the Eagles look to get off the mat against a Cowboys team averaging 42 points per game over their last four contests.

Dallas still hasn’t lost a home game thanks to the NFL’s top scoring offense. Quarterback Dak Prescott has never looked better. Not only does he lead the league in touchdowns with 26, he’s also top-five in completion percentage, yards and quarterback rating.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has great numbers as well, but they didn’t add up against the 49ers. Philly’s receivers couldn’t get open all day and unlike years past, Hurts seems hesitant to run when plays break down.

Defensively, both teams need to play better than they did last week. Aside from the first quarter, Niners quarterback Brock Purdy had all day to throw against the Eagles and the Cowboys defense gave up 35 points to a Seattle team averaging 22 points per game.

Believe it or not, Dallas could be the key to beating Dallas this week, as in Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert. Philadelphia’s third-leading receiver missed the last three games with a forearm injury and his absence was glaring against the 49ers.

If Goedert plays, Philadelphia’s offense should look much better, but not as good as a Dallas unit featuring CeeDee Lamb. The league’s second-leading receiver had 191 yards in a 28-23 loss to the Eagles in Week 9 and probably can’t wait to face the NFL’s fourth-worst pass defense.

PREDICTION: Cowboys 34-27

Green Bay Packers (6-6) at New York Giants (4-8)

Don’t look now, but the Packers have won three straight games, four of their last five and just beat the defending Super Bowl Champion Chiefs 27-19.

With a 6-6 record, Green Bay is tied with Minnesota for second-place in the NFC North and still alive for a wild-card spot.

Thanks to two straight wins and a bye week, New York hasn’t lost a game in three weeks but that should change against the Packers. No team has fewer yards per game (258.7) than the Giants and the Packers average 329.6 yards per matchup.

Blame Green Bay’s Jordan Love for the team’s good fortune. The third-year quarterback just had his second straight three-touchdown game against Kansas City and has 10 touchdowns in his last four games.

He’s still not Aaron Rodgers, but after beating the Chiefs and Lions in consecutive weeks, he’ll have no trouble against the Giants defense. Offensively, New York’s offense remains one of the NFL’s worst, scoring just 13.3 points per game.

PREDICTION: Packers 34-21
