Week 7 NFC East predictions: Eagles look to rebound against NFL's top offense

Two NFC East teams go head-to-head this week while another looks to recover from its first loss of the season.

Washington Commanders (3-3) at New York Giants (1-5): Despite being outgained by 209 yards against the Falcons, Washington found a way to beat Atlanta 24-16 on Sunday. The Giants were just as scrappy against Buffalo but couldn’t get the win with Tyrod Taylor at quarterback.

The Commanders are better than people think, and the Giants are much worse than last year’s playoff team. New York doesn’t have a wide receiver in the top 60. Tight end Darren Waller leads the team with 282 yards, which is 48th among NFL pass-catchers.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is 5-1-1 against the Commanders in his career but could miss his second straight game with a neck injury. Taylor actually outgained Buffalo’s Josh Allen in last week’s loss, but the team is working out quarterbacks Matt Barkley and Ian Book just in case.

Washington’s defense gives up the fourth-most yards per game (377.2) and is bottom-five in yards and points allowed, but the Commanders will look to build on a three-turnover game against Atlanta and should have no problem against a Giants offense averaging the second-fewest yards (265.5) per game.

PREDICTION: Commanders 24-17

Miami Dolphins (5-1) at Philadelphia Eagles (5-1): The Eagles will break out their Kelly Green uniforms for this one, but the Birds should be seeing red after a frustrating 20-14 loss to the Jets, their first in franchise history. Philadelphia looked ill-prepared and uninspired against an injured Jets roster and now get a Dolphins team that just dropped 42 points (and a back flip) on the Panthers.

Sunday’s game will come down to each team’s offensive line. With Cam Jurgens already on the IR, the Eagles struggled when right tackle Lane Johnson left last week’s game with an ankle injury. Philadelphia is most effective when it runs the ball and eat clock. The Eagles rushed for a season-low 80 yards in last week’s loss to the Jets. They’ll need to do much better against the Dolphins.

Miami’s offense leads the NFL in yards, points and points per game. If the Eagles can’t get quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, he’ll have a field day with league-leading receiver Tyreek Hill against Philadelphia’s depleted secondary.

Miami’s offensive line kept its quarterback clean last week against the Panthers, but Philly could give the Dolphins trouble, especially if rookie defensive tackle Jalen Carter returns from an ankle injury that kept him out against the Jets.

If he plays and puts pressure on Tagovailoa, the Eagles should get the win. Otherwise, Miami will move to 6-1 and remain atop the AFC East.

PREDICTION: Eagles 34-31
