What Could’ve Been: Raiders, Russell Wilson, and DK Metcalf

During the offseason, the dynamics of teams often shift significantly. When many players become free agents, teams can change drastically, for better or worse. In this context, the Las Vegas Raiders were focused on enhancing their quarterback and wide receiver positions.

Pete Carroll recently joined Marshawn Lynch and Mike Robinson on the ‘ Get Got Podcast.’ The former Seattle Seahawks players reminisced about their time together. They also discussed the challenging task of reconstructing the Raiders’ roster.

Robinson added that he believed playing for the Raiders was a place where careers die. “I’ve looked at the Raiders like that’s been the graveyard for careers,” Robinson said.

Now, it is Carroll’s responsibility to reverse this trend.

Addressing the Quarterback Position: Russell Wilson Was an Option

Despite having Aidan O’Connell on the roster, this regime believed there was a necessity for an upgrade. In nine games played, the second-year quarterback threw for eight touchdowns and 1,612 passing yards. However, none of these stats contributed to many wins.

Wilson is a proven talent, a 10-time Pro Bowl recipient and Super Bowl champion, so it made sense that his name was linked to the Raiders this offseason. Also, the connection between “DangeRuss” and Carroll was well-established. So, naturally, Wilson’s name became attached to Carroll.

“Nobody knows those guys the way that I do,” Carroll said. This may be why Geno Smith was traded to Las Vegas. The former Seattle Seahawk coach maintains relationships with his players.

“We needed a quarterback so there was conversation in that short amount of time before we got Geno,” Carroll said. Wilson was almost a Las Vegas Raider.

D.K. Metcalf Wanted to be a Raider

Metcalf is a dynamic receiver on the outside, showcasing unmatched strength and speed. He would have played a key role in the Raiders’ offense. Earlier in the offseason, Seattle was parting ways with several of their star players. Evidently, Metcalf was the next pin to fall. The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired him in exchange for a second-round pick. However, Robinson and Lynch revealed that a trade to Las Vegas was a possibility.

“Beastmode” addressed that Carroll wanted to grab as many Seahawks for his roster as possible. Robinson chuckled and briefly said, “Remember D.K. wanted to go.”

This short comment shows that there was an interest from the Pro Bowl receiver. Besides showing how many players will now be attracted to the Raiders, it also shows how much the current players will love their new coach.
