MarShawn Lloyd is injured again. The Green Bay Packers' second-year running back just can't seem to stay healthy, and his latest injury is going to keep him out for the season opener, if not longer.
Lloyd suited up for the Packers' preseason win over the Indianapolis Colts this past weekend, but found himself injured after making a big 33-yard catch on a wheel route in the second quarter. He took a hit on the play a nd came up slowly.
After the contest, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur revealed that Lloyd suffered another hamstring injury.
"He's gonna miss some time," LaFleur said Sunday, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
Lloyd may never reach his immense potential in the NFL if he can't stay healthy, but the Packers have to still feel good about their running back situation behind starter Josh Jacobs.
Lloyd has been competing for the RB2 spot with third-year running back Emanuel Wilson, who has now basically locked up the role with the news of Lloyd's injury.
Wilson rushed 103 times last season for 502 yards and four touchdowns and proved to be a great backup to Jacobs. He also added something via the passing game, but there was no guarantee he'd make the team in 2025 because of the presence of Lloyd, f ellow third-year wideout Chris Brooks and even rookie undrafted free agent pickup Amar Johnson, who has looked good this preseason.
The Packers are deep at running back, but Lloyd simply can't be trusted to be healthy.
Wilson has proven himself to be a reliable backup and he looked strong and explosive in his preseason action against the Colts.
Anything can happen in the NFL, but Wilson has to now feel confident about his chances of not just making the team, but being the Packers' RB2 in 2025 as well.
