As recently as last week, unsettled Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers made it clear he'd like to have a new NFL home before the trade deadline arrives at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
As of Wednesday morning, Meyers remained on track to be with the 2-5 Raiders when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-3) this coming Sunday. However, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN suggested on Wednesday that there's a chance Meyers will soon get his wish.
"Teams I've talked to believe that Meyers has a decent chance to be dealt -- possibly the best chance among available wide receivers," Fowler shared. "Las Vegas has received interest in the seven-year veteran, and my sense is the Raiders want a strong pick for Meyers. A swap of Day 3 picks won't do at this stage."
Meyers is in the final year of his contract, and the Raiders' recent signing of veteran Tyler Lockett understandably caused some to believe that Las Vegas was preparing to ship Meyers out of town. Fowler mentioned that the Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills "are believed to be in the receiver market" this fall. The New York Giants, New England Patriots and Washington Commanders are also among the clubs that could be interested in acquiring a target such as Meyers.
The 4-3 Steelers are a win-now team with 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers serving as their starting quarterback. On Tuesday, Pittsburgh agreed to acquire safety Kyle Dugger from the New England Patriots.
"Pittsburgh is keeping tabs on this one but is prepared to be patient, too. If I had to predict a destination right now, I'd say the Steelers," Fowler added about a possible Meyers trade. "Other teams seem to be looking for more of a vertical threat than a possession receiver. Meyers has 29 catches for 329 yards (and zero touchdowns) this season."
Fowler's final point hints that a team such as the Steelers could want to land Meyers at a discounted price. Perhaps the Raiders will ultimately view such a transaction as an addition-by-subtraction trade if they suffer a blowout loss to Jacksonville at Vegas' Allegiant Stadium this Sunday.
