San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy turned 25 in December, making him eligible one final time for CBS Sports' Top 25 NFL players 25 and under, curated by Cody Benjamin. Purdy landed at No. 14 overall, ranking as the second-highest quarterback behind only Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders, who came in at No. 2.

The No. 1 spot went to Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase.

Purdy's No. 14 ranking marks a slight drop from last year, when he was listed at No. 10. While the 49ers struggled in the 2024 season, finishing with just six wins, Purdy still put together a solid statistical year—throwing for 3,864 yards and 20 touchdowns. Although, he also tossed 12 interceptions and wasn't able to carry the 49ers to more than six wins in 2024.

"Did he finally stumble under the weight of a battered 49ers supporting cast in 2024? Yes," Benjamin wrote. "Does that fully erase the poise, play-extending shiftiness, and highly efficient point-guarding that made him Kyle Shanahan's best Super Bowl-caliber starter to date? Not in our eyes. Purdy's vision and composure are still borderline elite."

Despite a down year for the team, the 49ers have shown full confidence in Purdy's long-term future, signing him this offseason to a five-year, $265 million contract extension and cementing his role as the franchise quarterback.

In fact, there wasn't any hesitation when it came to deciding on Purdy's future.

"Brock's our quarterback, and that was an easy kind of think tank session going into this offseason," general manager John Lynch recently said. "Is this the guy we want to be our quarterback? We all looked at each other and said, 'Absolutely.'"

Heading into the 2025 NFL season, Purdy will look to prove the 49ers made the right decision by locking him in as their on-field leader for years to come.

"I think every single year we'll have a chance," Purdy said in May. "We have our core group of guys that we've had here for a while that have established our winning culture here. Obviously, we had some stuff go awry last year with injuries and whatnot, but I think, at the end of the day, we have what it takes here."

The 49ers are betting big on Purdy to return them to Super Bowl contention.
