In the NFL, winning is everything. When teams fail to meet expectations, head coaches are the first to face criticism.
As the season reaches its halfway point, several coaches are under increasing pressure to get their teams back on track. Whether it is poor game management, questionable play-calling, or a lack of results on the field, these coaches are running out of time to prove they are the right people for the job.
Dan Quinn is in his third season as head coach of the Washington Commanders, and despite making the NFC Championship two seasons ago, his tenure may soon be over.
The Commanders sit at a 1-4-1 record, despite having former Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels. Much of Washington’s struggles can be attributed to Dan Quinn’s poor game management.
In Week 5 against the New York Giants, Washington had the ball in Giants territory in the final seconds of overtime. Instead of attempting a game-winning field goal, Quinn ran another play. Time expired, and the game ended in a tie.

Quinn’s poor management was once again on full display in Monday night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Washington failed to convert on multiple fourth-down attempts instead of kicking field goals. The Commanders ultimately lost by six points, raising questions about whether taking the points in those situations could have changed the outcome.
Another criticism of Quinn is that he’s a defense-minded coach, but Washington’s defense has been one of the worst in the league. They are currently ranked 29th in passing yards allowed per game and points per game.
Quinn has repeatedly made poor decisions that are simply unacceptable for an NFL head coach.
To say the Chargers’ 2026 campaign has been a disaster is an understatement. Los Angeles remains winless, and head coach Jim Harbaugh is accountable for the disappointing start.
Harbaugh was brought in to make the team true contenders, but has failed to do that. Most of the problems have come from the offense, although they have weapons like Justin Herbert, Omarion Hampton, and Ladd McConkey. The offense is 30th in the league in points for, averaging 15 points per game.
The Chargers are 0-6, and Jim Harbaugh wants answers.
Through six games:
15.0 points per game -0.190 offensive EPA/play (32nd)
Just 6 points against Kansas City.

Offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel was brought to Los Angeles to rejuvenate the offense, but he’s done the opposite. The Chargers currently lead the NFL in turnovers with 15. Furthermore, McDaniel has faced criticism for his limited use of Hampton and the offense’s inability to capitalize in the red zone.
But the structural problems fall on Harbaugh. Above all, the Chargers have been very undisciplined, ranking third in the league in penalties with 54.
Harbaugh has completely failed to meet expectations in his third season with Los Angeles, putting him squarely on the hot seat.
Todd Bowles has been on the hot seat for a while, but now that his Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 1-5, his seat is on fire.
Bowles can’t be the only one at fault, as the team has dealt with injuries, including starting quarterback Baker Mayfield. Regardless, Bowles has shown time and time again that he’s not the man for the job.
Bowles’ teams have a long history of being inconsistent. Just a year ago, the Bucs started the season 6-2, with some calling them contenders. However, they finished the rest of the season 2-7 and missed the playoffs.
He also has trouble finishing games. Just this past Sunday, Tampa blew a 13-point fourth-quarter lead to the Pittsburgh Steelers, losing in overtime.
Bowles has found some success with the Buccaneers in the past, but most of that was due to the lack of talent in the NFC South. In his previous four seasons, Bowles topped nine wins just once.
