'Whoever number zero is, I love him' - Former UT QB Jarrett Guarantano loved what he saw on film from Vols junior against Syracuse

Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Jarrett Guarantano loved what he saw from junior tight end Ethan Davis in UT's season-opening 45-26 win against the Syracuse Orange.

Guarantano debuted his new YouTube channel this week where he breaks down plays from Tennessee football games (if you're a film junkie -- or even if you're not -- you'll almost certainly enjoy Guarantano's detailed offensive breakdown from the Vols' win against Syracuse).

At one point during the breakdown, Guarantano highlighted Davis’s elite blocking on back-to-back plays.

Guarantano pointed out a play where Davis took on three Syracuse defenders by himself.

On the next play, Davis again executed a key block.

"Whoever number zero is, I love him," said Guarantano. "He sticks his head in there and he blocks."

Vols offensive coordinator Joey Halzle says Ethan Davis had a "big time game" despite not recording a reception against Syracuse

The box score didn't do Davis justice in the Vols' win against the Orange.

Davis, a former four-star recruit from Suwanee, GA, didn't record a catch against Syracuse.

But he still had a "big time game" according to Tennessee offensive coordinator Joey Halzle.

"We had him a couple times -- didn’t end up connecting to him," said Halzle of Davis being held without a catch. "One time, the ball went in another direction [on a play] that he ran a beautiful route on. I feel like he’s a guy that can create mismatch opportunities for us -- especially as you get closer to the end zone. Did an elite job blocking in the core. That guy has come a long way blocking. He had a big time game."

Guarantano's film breakdown shows exactly why Halzle believes Davis had a big-time game.

Stats don't always tell the full story -- especially when it comes to the tight end position. Davis may not have had a catch against Syracuse, but he put plenty on film that NFL teams will love.
