The New York Giants might not be part of postseason talks by December, but they've delivered some must-see TV moments ever since they named rookie Jaxson Dart their starting quarterback after Week 3.
During a recent appearance on the FanDuel TV program "Up & Adams," NBC Sports analyst and former NFL quarterback Chris Simms shared how watching Dart play this fall has reminded him of a living legend.
"I like when they score touchdowns, he comes off the sideline and he’s swearing and cussing and, 'Let’s f'in go.' And you can see the team rallying around him," Simms said about Dart, per Lauren Campbell of MassLive. "That’s what makes great quarterbacks great. What do you think everybody loved Tom Brady in New England for? He’d come off the field and be like, 'Yes, let’s give it to these m-fers.' And the team was like, 'Yeah! That’s right.' It energizes the sideline, and that’s what he’s doing for the sideline."
Multiple Giants players mentioned Dart's "aura" and "moxie" before his first regular-season start in Week 4. Most recently, he tried to energize the Big Blue defense after scoring a go-ahead touchdown with 37 seconds left in regulation of this past Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos.
However, Dart couldn't prevent the Giants from suffering a historic collapse that resulted in the club falling to 2-5 on the season.
As for Brady, he earned a reputation as one of the most competitive players in NFL history, collecting seven career Super Bowl rings. Clearly, those running the Giants hope Dart follows Brady's example.
"His leadership and his approach to the game, emotionally and everything that way, is awesome," Simms added about Dart. "I don’t know how people can hate on him when the whole locker room loves him and they’re rallying around the guy."
On Oct. 9, Dart led the Giants to an impressive 34-17 "Thursday Night Football" victory over the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Dart and Co. will next face the 5-2 Eagles at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.
