Why The Miami Dolphins Still Have A Chance in 2025

So this may be confusing to some, but I feel like the Miami Dolphins still have a realistic chance to make the postseason despite a start to their year that is similar to a year that I will get to later on.

After the recent defeat of the Kansas City Chiefs last night, as well as the bad starts by the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens, it prompted me to make this article about how I feel that the Miami Dolphins, despite all their flaws and every team has their flaws, have a chance to do something despite the bad start to their season.

I feel like I am going to get badmouthed on this, but I do have my usual three takes as to why I feel this way, one of which was a while ago, but it is worth mentioning. So, how about we take a Deep End Dive into why I feel that the Miami Dolphins still have a chance to make the playoffs in 2025.

The 2016 Season

You may ask why I bring up the 2016 season in particular for the Dolphins and it is because they started with the same record as they did in 2025, only for them to reel off nine of their last eleven games to finish with ten wins in a sixteen-game schedule at the time, which was good enough to sneak into the playoffs.

Now they did get smacked by the Pittsburgh Steelers at the time but let us remember that Pittsburgh was a perennial Super Bowl contender that year and they ended up going to the AFC Championship game that year but lost to of course the goat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots who then came back down twenty five in the second half of Super Bowl fifty one to defeat the Atlanta Falcons thirty four to twenty eight off a James White run inside the five yard line.

That gave Tom Brady his fifth of seven rings, something us Dolphins fans could only dream of.

The 2025 Dolphins have the same record as they did in 2016; the only difference is that in 2016, Adam Gase was in his first season as the Dolphins’ head coach, and he only lasted three seasons, the same as with Flores. I understand people are calling for the head of Mike McDaniel, and I agree that if the losses keep happening, especially like the one against the Panthers, then he may eventually lose his job, and the same can be said about Chris Grier. T

he only thing that will save their jobs now is if they keep winning games, not losing, or else we may have to do what the Jacksonville Jaguars fans did to Shad Khan, the owner of the Jaguars, when they chanted “fire Baalke”. That is how I think they can still do something in 2025, based on the 2016 season, but only if they can, like Tua said after their Monday Night Football win against the Jets, stack wins.

Play Better On Both Sides

The play on both sides of the ball has not been good at all for the Dolphins, especially on defense, where they cannot get a stop on third down for a nosebleed. The offense, on the other hand, is decent, though it can be better despite not having Tyreek Hill for the rest of the year, possibly permanently. In this segment, I am mostly going to focus on the defense because they are the main culprit here. This is especially the case with the front seven, which has been nonexistent in the regular season with the inability to stop the run. In order to win in the National Football League, you have to be able to stop the run as well as get off the field, forcing three-and-outs. Something that this defense has not done a lot of this season.

Kenneth Grant, I am not sure, is ready for the big stage yet, and the same can be said for Jordan Phillips. It can take time for rookies to develop. It is not like they are going to be good players right away, as it takes time for them to develop their craft and chemistry with their teammates. Then we get to Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, Chop Robinson, and Zach Sieler, who have also been non-existent, especially Sieler, which means I have not had a moment to say “Sieler It On Up” something I credit Brendan Tobin from Tobin and Leroy for, since he came up with the phrase when Sieler makes a big play.

But Zach has no sacks this year, and so does Chop Robinson; the only two players that do are Chubb and Phillips. Something has to give, and these guys have to produce, and now so this team can win more games, especially with the Chargers next on the schedule. This is how I feel that the Dolphins need to play better on both sides of the ball, with an emphasis on defense.

Where The Dolphins Stand

The Miami Dolphins currently are two games out of the seventh and final playoff spot in thirteenth, but ideally you would want the fifth seed since I do not see the Dolphins winning the division unless something absolutely wild happens to the Bills, which could happen if the Patriots keep things up. I do, however, see the Dolphins unless disaster does not hit which feels inevitable at this point, reeling off some huge wins, starting with the Chargers this Sunday, then the Browns, Falcons, which they may lose that one then a struggling Ravens tea,m before they play for the final time this year, the Buffalo Bills at Hard Rock Stadium.

That is the schedule ahead for the Miami Dolphins before the game against the Commanders in Madrid. If they want to get back into the playoff mix, they have to win the majority of their games down the stretch. If they do that, then they should be in, but there are a lot of factors that contribute, like seeding, for example, but we cannot discuss this until they are either still in the fight or they are not in it altogether. So that is where they stand in the standings right now but that can change as the season progresses.

Dolphins’ Chances In Summary

So, how does this sum up the Dolphins’ chances for the 2025 season as of week six? It sums it up through the similarity with the 2016 season because they started with the same record and they have to do the same as they did that season. Then I brought up how they need to play better on both sides, mainly on defense.

Finally, where they currently stand in the AFC standings as of now, before the week six games, and how they can get back into the playoff mix. This season has already had its share of emotions, but it is only going to get us somewhere, and that is the playoffs or right back to square one.
