Why Tyreek Hill Still Doesn't Have a Team

NFL training camps have begun, and rosters are coming together throughout the league; however, one of the league’s best wide receivers of his generation finds himself without a job.

However, the eight-time Pro Bowler receiver and the five-time First Team All-Pro wideout Tyreek Hill is a free agent for the NFL’s 2026 season, and Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus doesn’t think he’ll join any team until the beginning of the season. With the free agency period already being over and with the training camps starting in the NFL, it says everything about the situation.

The Injury That Changed Everything

Hill’s free agency cannot be understood without reference to the situation that occurred to him back in September. During the Week 4 game against the New York Jets, Hill sustained an absolutely terrible injury, with his knee being dislocated and many ligaments being torn, including the ACL.

This injury ended his 2025 season with only four NFL games played and required several surgeries. In February, the Miami Dolphins cut Hill, making room for cap space just prior to when most of his contract would start being guaranteed.

Taking It Slow, On Purpose

Hill apparently looks great but still feels that he has something left to work on. It is not surprising that the agent clearly pointed out that there are no unrealistic deadlines and that it is all about how Hill recovers. This is understandable for a 32-year-old receiver who has always played relying on his top-end speed.

Not Every Voice Is as Optimistic

Despite the optimistic tone being maintained by Hill, it is not guaranteed that Hill will even suit up for one game in 2026, and the idea about him winning the Comeback Player of the Year award was merely a product of hopefulness. This speaks to how uncertain the situation has remained. A player like Hill wouldn’t remain on the market for this long without teams having some questions.

Landing Spot Rumors Without Landing Spots

Hill has had his name linked to several different organizations over the course of the off-season. Reuniting with Patrick Mahomes with the Kansas City Chiefs, who drafted him and helped get his career started, seems like the most fitting situation of all. There has also been discussion about Hill joining the Baltimore Ravens. Other NFL rumors about other organizations, such as the Buffalo Bills, seem to have slowed down now that Buffalo has brought in more receiving help somewhere else and now has too many receivers on their team. This has all just been speculation since Hill is not ready to commit anywhere just yet.

What This Means Going Forward

NFL fans believe that Hill will suit up sometime during the year 2026 and have no doubt that he will have a great effect on the playoffs when he does sign on. That is a pretty impressive prediction for a man who has not been active in the NFL in almost a year, yet it makes sense considering the skill level that teams believe Hill can still have if his knee plays along. Right now, Hill is one of the most interesting stories of the NFL despite not being in it.
