What has been advertised as a high-powered Washington Commanders offense left much to be desired with its play for a second consecutive game, this time during Thursday night's 27-18 loss at the Green Bay Packers.
Following that defeat, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels insisted that alarm bells aren't going off within the team's facility heading into the weekend.
"We got 10 days until our next game, so it's nothing to dwell about it," Daniels said about the current state of the Commanders, per Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports. "It's early in the season. I wouldn't expect anyone in this locker room to hit the panic button. We faced a really good team, and we came up short, so we'll move on to the next game."
While the Commanders earned a 21-6 Week 1 win over the New York Giants back on Sept. 7, the Washington offense was held to just 14 points until Deebo Samuel scored a 19-yard rushing touchdown halfway through the fourth quarter of that contest. On Thursday night, Daniels completed 24-of-42 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 17 yards on seven carries.
According to Kevin Patra of the NFL's website, the 18 points scored by Washington were the fewest for a Daniels start. Additionally, Washington accumulated the fewest total yards (230), yards per play (3.5), rushing yards (51) and first downs (15) with the second-year pro serving as the club's QB1.
Meanwhile, Green Bay star pass-rusher Micah Parsons harassed the Washington offensive line throughout the evening. In total, he tallied a team-high eight quarterback pressures and half a sack.
"It starts with me, it starts with everybody up front, it starts with the whole offensive skill group," Daniels said during his postgame media availability. "So it's not pointing the finger at anybody. Collectively, we're all to blame, and we'll get back to work."
The Commanders seemingly will be without veteran running back Austin Ekeler for the rest of the campaign after he suffered what is thought to be an Achilles injury on Thursday night. Daniels knows that Washington's future opponents won't be feeling sorry for the NFC East club later this fall.
"It's gonna be a big loss, but we got guys that gotta step up and are more than capable of stepping up," Daniels said about Ekeler's injury. "But it's always tough losing veteran players."
The Commanders will have a bit of a break before they begin preparing to face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 21. Las Vegas, which is 1-0, hosts the 1-0 Los Angeles Chargers this coming Monday night.
