With Grier Out, Will More Trades Be Made?
The first domino fell this morning as
Miami Dolphins General Manager Chris Grier was fired. Sure, they will say it was mutual, but the reality is Grier knew the writing was on the wall. Look, he’s been with the team 26 years and came up through the ranks, but as one of the main decision makers for the last 10 years, it hasn’t worked out. It was time for a change.
There has been considerable speculation in the last few weeks about potential player trades with the trade deadline approaching next Tuesday. After the Dolphins’ win over the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday, speculation arose that the team wouldn’t be in a fire sale mode, as it was presumed Grier would still be in charge.
However, with Grier gone, it’s fair to wonder if interim general manager Champ Kelly has been given the green light to make more moves than expected.
Look, the win over the Falcons a week ago was great, but it doesn’t erase what has happened all season long, and last night’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens was proof of that.
The Dolphins are going to embark on a new regime, and whoever the Dolphins choose as the new general manager after the season will probably want to reconstruct the roster in their own way. Head coach Mike McDaniel is on borrowed time, and I’m sure he knows so I guess the question is what is owner Stephen Ross waiting for? Well, who knows what goes into his head because he isn’t seeing things the way we as fans see them.
The big names that could get moved are pass rushers
Jaelan Phillips,
Bradley Chubb, and possibly Mathew Judon. I don’t think all of them will get traded, but it makes sense for two of them. Judon and Phillips are not under contract next year, and Phillips could get more value even if it’s a 3
rd round pick. Chubb creates some issues with his contract, and maybe the Dolphins are willing to pick up some of the money to get a better pick?
