New Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has accomplished a lot throughout his 12-year NFL career.
It's safe to say that he's one of the best of his era. Hopkins is a five-time All Pro and Pro Bowler. In 2013 he was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team and he led the NFL in touchdown catches during the 2017 season with 13.
Hopkins spoke to the Kansas City media for the first time on Thursday and discussed what it means to him to come to an organization that knows what it takes to win championships.
"It means a lot," Hopkins said. "It takes your game to a different level. It takes your focus, your drive, knowing that you're playing for something. It takes your game to a different level. I haven't played meaningful football in a couple years. Since, you know, probably when we started 8-0 in Arizona. So, you know, it takes your game to a different level."
Coming from a Tennessee Titans team that is 1-5 and ranks dead last in passing offense to the 6-0 Chiefs and being paired with Patrick Mahomes - one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time - certainly will raise anyone's enthusiasm. Hopkins went on to talk about what the importance to him having the opportunity to play in the Super Bowl is.
"Very important," Hopkins said. "I think I've done a lot, all the accolades that I have accomplished so far, as personal (goes). So, I think, you know, just playing meaningful football in January is, you know, what's left on the list."
The 32-year-old Hopkins has made it clear that it's all about winning the Super Bowl at this stage of his career. His journey towards accomplishing that could begin as quickly as this week as the Chiefs travel to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders on Sunday.
Hopkins and the Chiefs are both chasing history. K.C. is looking to become the first franchise to ever win three-straight championships, and a Super Bowl win could be what Hopkins needs to solidify a Hall of Fame career. Hopkins currently ranks 23rd all-time in receiving yards, and could shoot up as far as the top 10 with a few more solid seasons.
