Xavier Restrepo injury against Jaguars robs Titans fans of another possible reason for hope
USA TODAY Sports

Undrafted rookie wide receiver Xavier Restrepo was carted off the field in Week 13 during the Tennessee Titans (1-11) blowout loss at the hands of the Jacksonville Jaguars (8-4). With less than three minutes to play in the game, Restrepo went down with an injury to his right ankle.

It was the second consecutive week for Restrepo to be called up from Tennessee's practice squad and made active in a regular season contest.

Xavier Restrepo injury hits hard for Cam Ward

Interim coach Mike McCoy said after the loss that Restrepo's ankle injury was still being evaluated by team medical personnel.

Restrepo was in the Titans locker room postgame. Players who do not finish the game due to injury are not available to be interviewed by media. The rookie did leave the locker room without assistance or any kind of brace or wrap on the injured right ankle, though he was clearly hobbled.

Restrepo did not have his right shoe on his foot as he left the locker room.

"Just God's got him," quarterback Cam Ward said he told Restrepo after the injury. "He has a plan for all of us. And losing him, he's a real key piece, not just him being elevated, but just to the team, the energy he brings every day. And that's sad to see that, one of your homeboys to go out like that. But you see the guys who came over there and helped him up. You see the guys just on a knee on the sideline praying for him. So, we’re going to all continue to rally each other, but that's something that you never want to see."

Restrepo and Ward spent Ward's final collegiate season together at the University of Miami, where Restrepo broke the career receiving record and Ward finished as a Heisman Trophy finalist.

Tennessee will travel to Cleveland to face the Browns in Week 14.
