After 256 draft selections, the Denver Broncos picked the final player on the 2026 NFL draft. The so-called “Mr. Irrelevant” could make an impact on the defending AFC West division champions, although the draft pick doesn’t often come with high expectations.
Denver had to wait until Round 3 to have its first pick of the draft. They kicked off their draft with the No. 66 selection, going with defensive tackle Tyler Onyedim of Texas A&M.
They had six more picks, including the final one of the entire event. Like their first selection, they used the last to bolster the defense.
Sean Payton’s team went with Buffalo linebacker Red Murdock at No. 257. After spending four years at Buffalo, he became a reliable linebacker in college football. He went as far as breaking several records set by Khalil Mack.
Murdock posted an FBS-leading seven forced fumbles and 156 tackles in 13 games in 2024, which earned him first-team All-MAC honors.
“Inside linebacker with a nose for the football and loads of production to prove it. Murdock plays firm at the contact point with physicality and toughness. He’s ready for battle when the ball comes downhill, but he lacks the closing burst to stay ahead of blocking schemes and shut down the outside run before it turns the corner,” Lance Zierlein wrote about the player.
The Broncos got somebody with potential. However, he must develop to become a reliable starter.
