Zach Tom injury update: Green Bay Packers OT not expected to play vs. Dallas Cowboys

Green Bay Packers RT Zach Tom is not expected to play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He is dealing with an oblique injury.

“Packers RT Zach Tom is not expected to play Sunday night vs. the Cowboys due to the oblique injury he suffered in a loss at Cleveland, per source,” Schefter wrote on Twitter. “Green Bay has a bye next week to reassess how Tom is feeling and whether he can return in Week 6 vs. the Bengals.”

The Packers made a historic move by signing Tom to a four-year, $92 million contract this summer. A nice signing bonus will be coming the way of Tom, who is in his fourth season with the franchise. In fact, it’s the most an offensive lineman has ever received.

Tom was a fourth-round pick for the Packers during the 2022 NFL Draft at No. 140 overall after spending his college days with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Some playing time was earned as a rookie, getting on the field during nine games. Five of those were starts at different positions. However, the past two years have been a little clearer.

All 17 games in 2024 saw him protecting Jordan Love from the right side, a consistent presence up front. The same can be said about the previous year, currently having a 34-game streak going when it comes to starts in the regular season. You can bump the number up by three when including playoffs.

Now, the hope is Tom will continue to be out there, despite this injury sidelining him for a game or two. One more year is left on his rookie deal, meaning the Packers will not really start paying him the big bucks until 2026.

The other storyline in this game is Micah Parsons taking on his former team. The Packers pass rusher said it’s going to be a weird feeling trying to sack former teammate, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott.

“It’s going to be painful,” Parsons told The Associated Press’ Rob Maaddi. “That’s my guy. He was always like a good mentor for me. But you know how it is, he always told me if I ever faced him that it’ll be a great matchup, so I’m excited to see what Sunday brings itself.”
