As we look at the odds, some things stand out. The defending Eastern Conference champion Florida Panthers are at +350. If the Panthers play up to their ability, they can return to the Stanley Cup Final. However, they have a tricky first-round matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

As previously mentioned, the Carolina Hurricanes are the favorites at +250. Carolina lost to Florida in the 2023 Eastern Conference Final, but they made some great additions at the NHL Trade Deadline with Jake Guentzel and Evgeny Kuznetsov. The Hurricanes feel they can finally make it back to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2006 when they won the Stanley Cup.

The New York Rangers are +350 and also won the Presidents Trophy. Entering the playoffs, the Rangers have one of the easier matchups in the first round, taking on the Washington Capitals. The Rangers are the better team and should handle their business.

Boston is at +525, and Toronto is at +750. One of the Bruins or Maple Leafs is going home in the first round. History says Boston, especially in the playoffs. And does anyone trust Toronto to make a deep run in the playoffs? The Bruins have the talent to make a deep run and have redemption on their minds.

Regarding a sneaky good play, look at the Tampa Bay Lighting at +1000. Yes, they take on the Florida Panthers in the first round; however, the Lightning have won the previous two playoff series against the Panthers. They have the winning pedigree and are the team nobody wanted to play once Round 1 started.
