The St. Louis Blues‘ 12-game win streak came to an end with a 3-1 road loss to the Winnipeg Jets on April 7. It was a great run and very important for the club’s opportunity to make it back to the playoffs. They’re in solid position to get back into the postseason for the first time since the 2021-22 season. This club deserves a ton of credit for pulling themselves out of a season of inconsistency into the franchise’s longest winning streak ever. In 2018-19, they won 11 games in a row and eventually won the Stanley Cup after a magical run from January to the end of the postseason.
They have solidified themselves as a contender in the wild card race with how well they’ve played since the 4 Nations Face-Off break. Let’s get into a few takeaways from the streak and why they had so much success in nearly a full month of play.
I can’t say enough great things about how well Robert Thomas played throughout the winning streak. It’s gotten to a point where he’s clearly a top-tier first-line center in the NHL. He’s been elite in every sense of the word this season. Without the injury that sidelined him for 12 games, he might be challenging the 100-point mark. The play of Thomas, Jordan Kyrou, Dylan Holloway, and others was the biggest driving force behind the streak.
In the 12-game winning streak, Thomas posted four goals and 19 assists for 23 points. He had seven points in three games last week alone. Another impressive number is his 13 assists at even strength in this run. He looks the best he’s ever looked since the 4 Nations break and that’s saying something after an 86-point season in 2023-24. He now has 21 goals and 55 assists for 76 points in 67 games this season.
One thing that was certainly confirmed over the streak is that this team is at its best when Thomas is playing at an elite level. He’s the most important player on this team.
Several youngsters stepped up during the streak for the Blues. The play of Holloway, Philip Broberg, Zachary Bolduc, and Jimmy Snuggerud was fun to watch. Here’s a look at each of these young player’s stats during the streak.
Player | Games Played | Goals | Assists | Points | +/- |
Dylan Holloway | 11 | 5 | 10 | 15 | +13 |
Philip Broberg | 12 | 2 | 5 | 7 | +11 |
Zachary Bolduc | 12 | 6 | 2 | 8 | +6 |
Jimmy Snuggerud | 3 | 0 | 2 | 2 | -1 |

Obviously the Holloway and Bolduc goal-scoring numbers stick out, but Broberg might have the most important goal of them all during the streak in the form of a massive overtime winner against the Vancouver Canucks. At the time, it seemed like those two were going to battle it out for the final Western Conference playoff spot, but the Blues have blown by them. Snuggerud has also shown that he belongs and I think the goals will come soon. He has an elite release and a great feel for the game. Also, a shoutout to goaltender Joel Hofer, who has also been excellent in this stretch.
Props to Doug Armstrong for the young talent he’s added to the organization over the past few years. These four have been really good, and I have to assume that Dalibor Dvorsky is next. The bottom line – the kids can play.
The final thing learned is that the Jim Montgomery era in St. Louis has a high ceiling. They can win another Cup with him at the helm as head coach. He’s an excellent motivator and developer, and he can just flat-out coach. He’s won a lot of games at the NHL level with the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins, and now in St. Louis, his record is 34-17-6. Bringing him in was another excellent move by Armstrong.
