50 goals for Cole Caufield: Not a priority for the Habs, according to Martin St-Louis

The Canadiens have eight games left to play before the end of the regular season.

And of course, we'll be keeping an eye on Cole Caufield… who is just three goals away from reaching the 50-goal mark this NHL season.

But Martin St-Louis made it clear today during his press conference: Cole's 50 goals aren't a priority for the team right now. And that's normal.

The Canadiens' head coach admitted he'd be happy to see his protégé score 50. That's normal, too: St-Louis has been working with Caufield since taking the job and has developed him the right way.

It's no coincidence that today, Caufield is being talked about as a well-rounded player.

However, the team mustn't let itself get distracted. The mission is clear, after all… They need to win as many games as possible between now and the end of the season to solidify (and improve) the team's standing in the Eastern Conference standings.

What helps Caufield, however, is the fact that he has plenty of scoring opportunities on the ice.

In every game, we see him get a quality scoring chance. He's capable of breaking away from his opponents, and that's what makes him so dangerous in the offensive zone.

And if he continues to play the way he is, while contributing to his team's defensive success… the chances of seeing him score 50 goals this season are good.

That would make Martin St-Louis very happy… even though the captain says it isn't necessarily a priority for the team right now.

But we also know that Caufield's teammates are willing to do whatever it takes to help him reach that milestone. We saw it in the last game when Juraj Slafkovský fed him a simply magnificent pass (even if Nick Suzuki decided to shoot into an empty net while Caufield was right next to him, hehe):

Will Cole Caufield be able to score three goals in his next eight games to reach 50 goals in a single season for the first time in his NHL career?

The odds are open. And that makes the end of the Canadiens' season even more exciting for the team's fans.

In a nutshell

– Nice list.

– It's going to be a wild night.

– Phew.

– Times are changing.
