The Seattle Kraken continued their road trip, taking on the Utah Hockey Club on Tuesday, April 8. Although the Kraken won the first two games in the season series, Utah came out swinging in the first two periods, putting up seven goals in the first 40 minutes; they took the victory 7-1.

Game Recap

Two minutes into the first period, Kevin Stenlund sent a pass to Mikhail Sergachev in the center of the ice. With a shot, Sergachev scored the first goal of the game to put the Hockey Club up on the board early on.

At 12:26, Brandon Montour took a seat for tripping Logan Cooley. Eight seconds later, Jamie Oleksiak took a seat for a double minor high-stick on Kailer Yamamoto. On the 5-on-3, Sergachev sent a pass to Clayton Keller at the right faceoff circle. Keller scored to increase Utah’s lead by two.

With Oleksiak still in the box, Cooley passed to Yamamoto at the left faceoff circle. He fired the puck and scored the third goal with just six seconds left to go on the power play.

16 seconds into the second period, Lawson Crouse stole the puck from a missed Kraken pass. He skated up the center of the ice and sent the puck past Joey Daccord for the fourth time.

With eight minutes left in the second period, Dylan Guenther fired a shot from the boards. Cooley directed the puck into the back of the net for a five-goal lead.

At 14:39, Ryan Winterton and Michael Kesselring each went to the box for roughing. Less than a minute later, Ryker Evans joined Winterton in the box for a holding call. On the 4-on-3, Guenther skated up to the net with the puck and took a shot. Daccord made the save, but Nick Schmaltz was on the other side. Schmaltz recovered the rebound and scored.

Just under two minutes to go in the second, Stenlund had the puck by the boards and passed to Kesselring at the blue line. Kesselring passed to Michael Carcone at the other side of the ice. From the boards, Carcone fired the shot to give Utah a seven-goal lead. As the second period came to an end, Ian Cole took a seat for interference on Matty Beniers. The Kraken would start the third on the power play.

To start off the third period, Victor Ostman entered the crease for the Kraken.

23 seconds into the third period, Andre Burakovsky sent the puck across the ice for Jared McCann. With a shot from in front of the net, the Kraken were finally on the board. It was not nearly enough, though, and Utah took the victory 7-1.
