Remembering Michael Owen, whose passion for hockey journalism left a lasting mark on the Texas Stars.

The Texas Stars and their fan community are mourning the loss of Michael Owen, a former writer for 100 Degree Hockey whose voice and presence were a fixture at the H-E-B Center from 2021 to 2024.

Owen passed away at his home in Round Rock. Even in his final months, he remained dedicated to covering games, often attending despite feeling far from his best.

Stephen Meserve, founder of 100 Degree Hockey, recalled how Owen joined the site.

"Michael had just reached out to the Stars about a media credential, and through Brian Tosti we connected. He described himself as 'semi-retired but can't seem to stay away from the yard, field, rink, pitch, court, etc.'"

Owen quickly became known for his professionalism, his well-crafted postgame stories, and his remarkable ability to connect with people around the rink. Meserve admitted,

"I think I made more random connections during those three years thanks to Michael's introductions as he roamed through the arena and said hello to anyone and everyone."

Michael Owen's impact on Texas Stars coverage and the hockey community

Before joining 100 Degree Hockey, Owen had years of sportswriting experience, including wire stories that sharpened his game recap skills.

At the Texas Stars, he covered some of the franchise's strongest seasons, offering readers detailed analysis and a genuine love for the sport.

His work will remain archived on 100 Degree Hockey, serving as both a historical record and a tribute to his dedication. As 100 Degree Hockey noted, Michael's words - and the connections he fostered - will continue to be felt in the Texas Stars community.
