A few Flames prospects appear on Daily Faceoff’s World Junior roster projections

The 2025 edition of USA Hockey’s World Junior Summer Showcase is in the rear view mirror and, before we know it, it’ll be time for the 2026 World Junior Championship tournament.

Over at Daily Faceoff, our pal Steven Ellis has compiled all the information and scouting reports from the Summer Showcase and put together roster projections for Canada and the United States for the upcoming tournament. And as luck would have it, there are several Flames involved.

Canada

To begin with, Ellis includes a caveat:

“For this exercise, this team is built with the assumption that Zayne Parekh and Michael Misa are in the NHL. Given both players’ NHL team situations, there’s a good chance they’ll start the year in the NHL and stick around. If either of them are made available for the tourney? Oh boy.”

For those just joining us, Zayne Parekh was a first-round pick by the Flames in 2024 and he’s been simply sensational over the last two seasons with the Saginaw Spirit. He’s rattled off back-to-back 33 goal seasons and had 107 points in 2024-25, and he’s put up offensive numbers in the Ontario Hockey League that are unprecedented. He’ll be given every chance to start the upcoming season with the Flames, since there’s nothing left for him to accomplish in major junior.

As we’ve noted elsewhere, if Parekh is made available by the Flames, he’ll be on Canada’s World Junior team.

Ellis has also included 2025 first-round pick Cole Reschny on Canada’s roster. Reschny had a really strong draft season with the Western League’s Victoria Royals, and he’s headed to the University of North Dakota for the fall. Reschny was listed as an extra forward for the Canadians after a really strong showing at the Summer Showcase.

“I wasn’t sure where to slot in Reschny and Boisvert, but both are extremely versatile. They played great at the WJSS and while that’s not enough to earn a roster spot, I think they should be in Minnesota for the main event. Reschny is a smart forward who has always been so productive for Canada. If Luchanko goes to the NHL, I can see Reschny moving up higher in the lineup. Boisvert has shown he can play with just about anyone, so that doesn’t hurt, either.”

2024 third-rounder Henry Mews was also considered for one of Canada’s blueline spots.

United States

Ellis has projected both of the Flames’ 2025 first-rounders on their respective national junior squads. While Reschny slots in for Canada, Cullen Potter is projected to be on the United States’ roster on their third line, alongside Ryker Lee and L.J. Mooney.

“The third line would be sneaky good. All three players were absolute stars at the WJSS – like, among the best players in the tournament, period. Lee continues to get better as he grows into his growing frame, while Mooney has shown he has no shortage of skill to work with, despite being the smallest player on this team. Potter can make things happen with just about anyone, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up on the second line instead.”

What do you think? Do you agree with Ellis’ projections? Do you think Henry Mews could force his way onto Canada’s blueline with a good start to the season?
