A note about the future of FlamesNation

Hi everyone, my name is Ryan Pike, and I’m the Managing Editor of FlamesNation, which is part of The Nation Network. Our network features a number of shows across North America, along with multiple team sites in various Canadian NHL markets (along with some quite strong coverage of the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors that we’re pretty proud of).

The Nation Network also features our flagship national brand, Daily Faceoff. Our staff at “DFO,” as we call it, have brought high-level analysis, editorial, and up-to-the-second news on top of what we’re best known for: Fantasy hockey tools, line combinations, and starting goaltender information every day.

Today, we’re here to announce that beginning today, we will be transitioning the names of our hockey team sites (CanucksArmy, OilersNation, FlamesNation, and TheLeafsNation) to verticals of Daily Faceoff for each specific city.

“We are very excited about this next chapter because of what it unlocks for our business,” said Jay Downton, co-founder and President of The Nation Network. “By taking this step, we will be able to unlock more content for our fans, provide greater opportunities for our teammates, and ultimately drive the next step for TNN and Daily Faceoff as a hockey platform. This evolution to our hockey sites will help us unlock stronger connections to both the teams and the league, and we look forward to continuing to empower our trusted teams to create high-quality local content for Flames fans.”

The social media accounts have already switched over to the new name and branding, and over the next few months, you will see various changes to the branding on FlamesNation.ca, culminating in the eventual full transition to Daily Faceoff Calgary in January 2027.

It’s important to note that with this change: we’re not changing what we do. In fact, like Jay said, we’re hopeful this change allows us to unlock even more opportunities with what we’re able to do in bringing top notch coverage to Flames fans. We’re still going to deliver in-depth game day coverage. We’ll still be in the Flames’ locker room and press box, bringing you the stories you won’t find anywhere else.

None of our old articles will be going away with this transition, so you can still go back and read pivotal FlamesNation articles such as the NHL finally removing retired Russian players from their database, and enjoy in-depth coverage of us taking photos of Scotia Place arena construction.

As someone who’s been with the site and the network for nearly 15 years the change is a bit bittersweet, but at the end of the day, it’s more sweet than bitter, and I’m excited to see the next chapter of this website unfold with our same local community focus behind it.
