While the Canadiens were defeating the Maple Leafs in Toronto, a historic evening was unfolding in Pittsburgh, as Marc-André Fleury played his final career game for the Penguins. For the last time, Fleury donned the Penguins uniform for an NHL game, providing us with some incredible images, including one of the Québécois goaltender reunited with his former teammates.

And for many other reasons, it was an unforgettable (preparatory) game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. First and foremost, Fleury was perfect in this game, turning aside all eight shots in 20 minutes of ice time to help his team win 4-1, the last victory of his career.

In addition to the victory, Marc-Andre Fleury’s full 20 minutes in front of the Penguins’ cage were magical. The fans responded, and they made sure to thank and give all the love in the world to their former goaltender, who will have won three Stanley Cups in Pittsburgh.

Penguins fans are clearly sad to see Fleury retire, so they made their wish heard – to see Fleury play another season.

After regular time, both teams had a short shootout, where Fleury took time to entertain the crowd by kissing his post and doing a few push-ups in front of his net.

Please note that Luca Del Belluz is the latest player to score a goal on Marc-André Fleury.

The Blue Jackets’ forward noted after the game that he was happy to have scored, but felt he had somehow ruined the party for Fleury

In the end, Fleury received a monster ovation after the game, while the Blue Jackets also stayed to honor the Québécois goaltender.

And finally, I’ll leave you with Fleury’s entire post-game statement to the media.
