Aatu Jämesn Signed To Entry-Level Contract

Jämesn was drafted 190th overall in 2020 out of Finland, has each season improved, and looks like a future NHL Winger. He played three seasons in Finland with the Pelicans in Liiga. His first season saw him play in 34 games, putting up one goal and five assists for six points. His second season was incredible, which saw him register 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points in 43 games. In the playoffs that year he played in 15 games and registered three goals and five assists for eight points. His final season saw him play in 36 games, where he recorded 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points. His production in the playoffs dropped as he scored two points (both assists) in 14 games.

He’ll likely start with the Ontario Reign and could play a huge role early with Akil Thomas and Alex Turcotte expected to graduate to the big club next season. He’s a very crafty playmaker and is incredible with the puck and he pulled off a Michigan during his final season.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in a power-play role early to showcase his potential. I think he’ll be more polished than some of the other rookies joining Ontario next season because he does have that experience playing pro hockey. Sometimes that can be a good asset considering he’s had multiple playoff runs and can compete in critical situations.

I see him as a potential top-six winger in the NHL. His development should be near the top of the priority list so they can have him be a skilled top-six winger. I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts on the third line with power play time to build him up but with a steady flow of ice time.
