Despite being freshly hired as head coach of the Canucks, Adam Foote is already taking a tremendous amount of heat online by the team's fans.
Adam Foote was formally announced as the new head coach for the Vancouver Canucks , a promotion to a position he most recently held as assistant under Rick Tocchet.
The move followed widespread guessing games regarding Tocchet's replacement. In spite of this promotion, the response from the fans was negative.
Some were disappointed, not impressed with Foote's style, and expecting a brief stay. Others wondered what would become of the team under him.
'The absolute worst hire you could ever make. What an absolute joke.'- Canucks fan
Foote joined the Canucks together with Tocchet in January 2023. Before, he was a development coach for the Colorado Avalanche for four years and served briefly and unsuccessfully as head coach for the WHL Kelowna Rockets.
However, he did overhaul the defense for Vancouver and helped the team's unit become one of the most disciplined in the league.
Tocchet had also previously praised Foote for his calm nature and tactical insight, characteristics that likely contributed significantly to the front office hiring him with the Canucks.
General Manager Patrik Allvin cited Foote's intimate familiarity with the roster and systems as one reason for the hire.
While Vancouver was rumored to have had its eyes set on a number of other candidates, including AHL coaches Manny Malhotra and Marco Sturm, it chose to promote from within.
Now the team is expecting stability within to translate to stability on the ice.
