Agent for Islanders' $66M Goalie Ilya Sorokin Responds to Trade Speculation

The agent, Dan Milstein, for Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin, recently took to X to quiet all of the trade rumors and say there is no truth to any of it.

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin's representative, Dan Milstein, brushed aside trade speculation Thursday, indicating the goalie has had zero trade talks.

Speculation about Ilya Sorokin's future, and forward Mathew Barzal's, picked up speed after the club traded defenceman Noah Dobson to the Montreal Canadiens in a pre-NHL Draft deal.

Sorokin is under contract until the end of the 2032 season

Sorokin, 29, is signed through the 2031-32 season with an average annual salary of $8.25 million, which is the fourth-highest league cap hit among goalies entering next season.

Sorokin finished last season with a 30-24-6 record, a .907 save percentage, and a 2.69 goals-against average.

The Islanders themselves failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in three seasons and let go of veteran president Lou Lamoriello as a result. Mathieu Darche was brought aboard as general manager in May.

A third-round selection in 2014, Sorokin has a career mark of 125-89-36 with a save percentage of .917 and 2.57 GAA. Sorokin was a Vezina Trophy finalist in 2023, receiving second-place votes.

The Islanders drafted highly-touted defenseman Matthew Schaefer with the first overall pick at this month's draft, one of a trio of picks in the first round for the Islanders.

The team is hopeful that he, along with Sorokin's elite abilities in the net, can get them back to the postseason, and fans of the team would want nothing more than to see that occur.
