AHL: Filip Engaras Heads Back Home

Forward Filip Engaras is returning home to Sweden to join Södertälje SK in HockeyAllsvenskan. The 25-year-old spent the last six years in North America, including his collegiate career. During the 2024-25 season, Engaras had three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 48 games with the Utica Comets. He also played two games with the Adirondack Thunder, putting up a goal and an assist. It was the second straight season that Engaras had his season shortened due to injuries. Engaras is the second Comet to take the overseas route, joining defenseman Santeri Hatakka, who went back home to Finland. This doesn’t come as a shock, as Engaras struggled to find an everyday role with the Comets.

Filip Engaras began his North American playing career at the NCAA level with the University of New Hampshire. In 80 games with the Wildcats, he scored 21 goals and added 26 assists for 47 points over the course of four years. The former sixth-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers in 2019 would play in 134 games at the AHL level and 31 at the ECHL level. In his time in the AHL, he would put up 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points with the Bakersfield Condors and Utica Comets. At the ECHL level, he would put up eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points with the Fort Wayne Komets and Adirondack Thunder. Engaras would put up two goals and seven assists for nine points in 17 games during the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
