Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is openly commenting on the rumors of either Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin, who play for the divisional foe Pittsburgh Penguins, becoming his teammate in Washington.

The NHL could soon be seeing the end of an era of a pair of the top Russian players to ever suit up, as both Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins are entering the final years of their respective contracts.

While the prevailing thought is that Malkin will likely call it a career after his current contract ends next summer, Ovechkin has shied away from the rumors that he could be entering his last year in the NHL.

Meanwhile, rumors continue to swirl around Sidney Crosby and whether he'll finish his career with the Penguins despite being under contract with the franchise for another 2 years.

Is there a chance that either player could become Ovechkin's teammate with the Capitals at some point? Per Ovechkin, that 'would be wonderful'.

If this happens, it would be wonderful. If not, we will fight on our own.

The chances of Crosby or Malkin actually being sent to the Capitals are slim to none, but it's still fun to think about!

Both Crosby and Malkin were on hand to present Ovechkin with a specialized engraved Rolex timepiece in April after he broke Wayne Gretzky's all-time goals mark to become the leading goal scorer in NHL history in what was a gesture of sportsmanship.

While the trio may have been rivals on the ice during numerous battles in the regular season and postseason, it's clear they have mutual respect for one another.
