According to the Associated Press’ Stephen Whyno, this is Ovechkin’s first six-game goal streak since Dec. 2018.

The Avalanche would end up winning 6-3.
It is the fifth time in Ovechkin’s career that he’s produced a six-game goal streak. The 38-year-old forward now has 836 career goals, 59 from tying Wayne Gretzky for the most goals in NHL history. Ovechkin is second on the all-time goals list, passing Gordie Howe and his 801 last season.
Ovechkin now has 14 goals on the season, along with 23 assists for 37 points. He leads the team in points, despite missing three games this season.
The 2023-24 campaign has been a massive drop in production for Ovechkin, with a goals-per-game (GPG) rate of 0.29. His previous career low GPG was 0.40 in 2016-17 and 0.41 in 2010-11. His career average is 0.60, tied with Gretzky for seventh in the NHL’s all-time list.
The Russian winger has produced one of the most prolific seasons in NHL history, with nine 50-goal seasons and nine Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophies, the most in league history.
The Capitals are 23-21-8 with 54 points, sixth in the Metropolitan Division, going 2-6-2 in their last 10 games. Their next game is Saturday in Montreal as they take on the Canadiens on Hockey Night in Canada. They travel back to D.C. to host the New Jersey Devils on Feb. 20, followed by a two-game Florida road trip to face the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers, respectively.
