Alex Ovechkin hit another milestone on Wednesday night, scoring his 900th NHL goal in the Washington Capitals’ 6–1 win over the St. Louis Blues.
The 20-season veteran became the first player in league history to reach the 900-goal mark, doing so in his 1,504th career game. He scored early in the second period with a backhand finish off a rebound.
“It’s a huge number,” Ovechkin said. “No one ever did it in NHL history and to be the first player ever to do it, it’s a special moment.”
The puck from his historic goal joined Ovechkin’s growing memorabilia collection, which already includes the stick used to break Wayne Gretzky’s record and the 895th-goal puck.

That said, a second, likely unexpected item also came Ovechkin's way before Wednesday's historic performance: a Tom Brady-signed jersey.
“You just got an autographed Tom Brady jersey to go with your incredible collection of hockey sticks and hockey jerseys,” TNT reporter Tarik El-Bashir told Ovechkin during a pregame interview. “Where does a Tom Brady jersey rank?”
“Obviously, it’s top signing,” Ovechkin replied. “Yeah, I’m pretty happy. Thanks, Tom!”
“From one GOAT to another,” El-Bashir added, to which Ovechkin emphatically replied, “Oh yeah!”
Brady and Ovechkin are signed to Fanatics memorabilia deals and have known interests in collecting.
Brady’s sports card store chain, CardVault, operates in multiple U.S. cities, while Ovechkin plans to open a personal museum in Moscow.
The signed jersey capped off a landmark day for Ovechkin, who has 39 points in 29 career games against the Blues and now has three goals this season. He also received a funny congratulatory message from skateboard legend Tony Hawk on Wednesday.
