Alexandre Texier is back at practice

Let’s summarize the Canadiens’ forward injury situation.

The Habs currently have 13 healthy forwards (the 12 who played yesterday plus Samuel Blais) and three injured: Alex Newhook, Patrik Laine, and Alexandre Texier.

Newhook won’t be back before the Olympics. Next.

Patrik Laine is getting really close to a return to action. We don’t know how the Habs will manage to make room for him (if that’s what they want to do) in their top-12, the day he’s ready.

What about Alexandre Texier? He’s injured and being considered on a day-to-day basis. He missed yesterday’s game against Minnesota.

We weren’t sure what to expect from the Frenchman next, but our colleague Patrick Guillet has just reported that the forward took to the ice in Brossard this morning.

He had recently missed practice. Seeing him take part this morning is therefore positive.

Does this mean he’ll be able to play tomorrow’s game? It’s too early to say – but we can see that this morning, the coach didn’t want to change his winning formula from yesterday.

Is that a clue for tomorrow?

Seeing Texier skate is a good sign. Even if it does raise new questions about the line-up.

Yesterday, we sensed that the new internal struggle was forcing the guys to go the extra mile. They know that skipping their turn is an increasingly realistic possibility. And in the end, it’s the Habs who come out the winner, since it raises the club’s level of play.
