An assist on a Connor McDavid goal was enough to help Leon Draisaitl hit the century mark in points on the season.

In the late stages of the first period, Draisaitl carries the puck into the offensive zone and reaches the middle of the circle before sending a pass back to the point for Mattias Ekholm. He proceeds to fire a shot through the traffic that makes its way to McDavid who tucks it in on the wraparound.

It marks the fifth time in his career that Draisaitl has recorded 100 points in a season, making him only the 20th player ever to do so as well as the third active player alongside McDavid and Sidney Crosby.

In addition to the 100 points for Draisaitl, McDavid also reached the 30 goal plateau on the season. Although it is a far cry from his 64 the season prior, it is the eighth straight time he has hit the mark and is two away from tying the franchise record for consecutive 30-goal seasons set by Jari Kurri.

This marks the latest milestone for Draisitl, who has already reached the 700-game mark and is nowhere close to finishing writing the record books. Given he is still only 28 years old, it’s fair to wonder just how much more he can accomplish throughout his illustrious career.

Originally taken third overall in the 2014 NHL Draft, he had been far and away the best player to come out of that draft class. His 843 career points (345 goals and 498 assists) are well ahead of the pack especially given the next closest is David Pastrnak at 723. Draisaitl had also proven to be a reliable playoff performer with the seventh-most playoff points since his debut birth in 2016-17, two ahead of Connor McDavid. To boot, he is one goal away from hitting 40 goals for the fifth time in his career which would make him the 38th player ever to have at least five such campaigns.

Draisaitl entered tonight’s game with 39 goals and 60 assists in 74 games played. With two assists on the night at the time of writing, who knows how much higher he can drive up his scoring totals before the regular season ends.
