Tristan Jarry's injury affects Pittsburgh's Stanley Cup betting odds

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been handed a potentially season-altering diagnosis with the reports that star goaltender Tristan Jarry has broken his foot.

The injury has been deemed week-to-week, but all indications suggest it's very unlikely he suits up by the time the playoffs roll around.

Jarry was an All-Star this season and one of the top goalies in the NHL, quite a loss for Pittsburgh as the regular season wraps up.

Pittsburgh's Stanley Cup odds dip with the news

Just a few days ago, the Penguins had the seventh-best odds to win the Stanley Cup on DraftKings, at +1600. The news of Jarry's injury moved their odds a bit, to +1800, which feels like the beginning of a more pronounced slide soon enough.

Betting Odds to win the Eastern Conference

Pittsburgh now has the second-lowest odds of the eight playoff teams to win the conference at +850.

The board:

  1. Florida (+300)
  2. Toronto (+450)
  3. Tampa Bay (+550)
  4. Carolina (+600)
  5. Boston (+800)
  6. NY Rangers (+800)
  7. Pittsburgh (+850)
  8. Washington (+1400)

Now, even with Jarry, this isn't to say Pittsburgh was a powerhouse in the East this season, but it's a team with championship experience that could present problems for certain teams in a seven-game series.

The East feels wide open at the top, with five of the seven best odds to win the Stanley Cup all presiding in this conference. The Penguins without Jarry may still be competitive, but it's hard to see them winning it all without him.

Consider looking to one Florida or Toronto to win the East and compete for a Stanley Cup this spring.
