The Anaheim Ducks have a solid young core, but with the team looking to add some veterans, they may explore the signing of veteran Jonathan Toews.
Recently, Jonathan Toews revealed that he was eyeing an NHL return in 2025/26, with his agent Pat Brisson revealing they're open for business in free agency, with many teams already reportedly interested.
The Manitoba native has unsurprisingly been linked to the Winnipeg Jets already, with the likes of the Toronto Maple Leafs now in play as well, but then one surprise team was linked to the former Blackhawks captain.
According to top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Anaheim Ducks have emerged as a team that could potentially take a run at the veteran forward, and with plenty of cash to spend in free agency, this could make sense as they look to add veterans around a young core led by Leo Carlsson, Troy Terry, Cutter Gauthier and Jackson Lacombe.
With the average age of this forward group among the youngest in the NHL, adding a 37-year old that can still get it done at the NHL level wouldn't be a bad move for the Ducks, and with the team also reportedly interested in Mitch Marner, they could be ready to make some big splashes over the summer.
On top of all this, the move to sign Toews would reunite him with new Head Coach Joel Quenneville, whom he played under in Chicago to plenty of success, but given the controversial past of their working relationship, that may be a positive or a negative.
It's unclear at this point if Toews would entertain heading to Anaheim after the Canadian spent his entire career in Chicago thus far and may look to choose a contender over the up-and-coming Ducks, but at this point in time, the future is looking very bright, and the Ducks targeting Toews could be a sign they're ready to push for a Stanley Cup Playoffs spot.
